Who are we?

The stamp of Jacques Dupuis

Moulin de Saint Georges, gite de charme à Auxerre

In 1970, interior designer, Jacques Dupuis, remodeled the former mill
into a modern home for his family.  The work was bold and modern with
a strong artistic inspiration. The main building became the home and
the barn his office and workshop.

The following excerpt about Jacques Dupuis is from an article by Magali LUCAS in Maisons de France, dated March 1969.

Jacques Dupuis: blue eyes, sandy hair, blond Gallic mustache. Add life:
mobility, gaiety without exuberance, zest and reverie. For the rest, listen,
if I dare say …
– ML “When you have a goal … that begins with an idea. Can you define your goal? ”
– JD “The idea of painting, I’ve always had that.
Today, not forgetting painting, I am more interested in the environment,
habitat, the way of life. Because I think that painting is a crowning,
that any work of art is a framework for life in which life itself is integrated.
I was led to my interest in this framework for life, which is precisely
the environment, habitat, and it fascinates me. A beautiful work, artistic,
in a terrible surrounding – that does not make sense.
… / … What interests me is not speculation about future architecture,
but the house of tomorrow, the immediate future.
Currently, and on a strictly personal level, I try to make a home that is neither a reconstruction of the past nor anticipation: The house of a family, mine,
that best matches my designs.  A modern house, yes, but relatively “traditional”.
… / … I try to find values, qualities, a spirit that can be found in ancient
architecture, but using resolutely modern techniques and materials,
it can be through some form e.g. , shapes that are beautiful forever.
If people are seduced by my house, so much the better. »

The cottage is dated “1970’s” by its design, architecture and some of its
furnishings.

Now we have the pleasure of introducing Colette

In order to maintain the property, Colette opened the main house to public
rentals in 2003 and settled herself into the second home. Colette is always
very happy to meet new people.  She enjoys sharing her historic cottage
with others and appreciates the vitality her visitors bring to the place.

Colette is committed to promoting the reputation of Burgundy.  She feels
visitors appreciate this less travelled part of Burgundy that offers a rich
architectural, historical and gastronomic heritage, and vineyards referred
to by Tolstoy in War and Peace! “Peter ordered some chablis”
(this shorthand term or diminutive is used as a synonym of wine).

Delphine: happiness is in the meadow

Our foreign visitors will be greeted by Delphine, who has travelled extensively,
studied in London and speaks English fluently.  When not working at the
Moulin, Delphine is busy with projects that combine her two loves:
art and horses.

She likes to have animals around her, so the property’s three pastures are
usually occupied by visiting horses or other animals.

“We are waiting for you with good humour, cheese puffs and
Chablis, or cookies and the juice from our local apples!
